Museum collection description: The museum was founded in 1908. On the initiative of a group of teachers and the leadership of public figures of Batumi as a school museum. On March 19, 1908, at the meeting held with the participation of 28 voters, the city council approved the joint decision of its board and the finance commission on the opening of a children’s museum at the city school named after Pushkin, which was soon fulfilled. After Nikoloz Gomon, the director of the museum was the scientist and public figure, Khariton Akhvlediani. The development and strengthening of the museum as a regional scientific and educational institution is connected with his name.

The museum houses more than 180,000 different types of exhibits. The manuscript fund also keeps more than 2,000 rare manuscripts in Georgian, Russian, Armenian, Arabic, Turkish, Persian and other languages. , including many bibliographic rarities.
